When Nigel and I began this appeal we didn't think it would grow so quickly, or that we would be organising such events as Golf Days and Summer Ball.  Many of our friends held coffee mornings, jumble sales, yard sales, craft sales.  They hosted barbeques, skittles nights and other events or took part in marathons, bikethons and so on.  Funds raised at these events ranged from £45 to £450 and every last bit helps our cause.  If you already have an idea to raise funds and are able to organise it we would be most grateful.  If you would like some helpful tips and guidance please email us fundraising@alistairsappeal.org

Alistair is our son.  He was diagnosed with a medulloblastoma, average risk in May 1999.  Alistair was just 5 when he was diagnosed and was a typical little boy.  He was mischievous, active, phlegmatic and thoughtful.  He loved to teach his little sister, Lauren, all the things he had learned at school and the two were close companions.  He loved water and would dive into water of any depth despite not being able to swim.  He was developing into a bit of a joker and enjoyed being part of a crowd.  He died, unexpectedly,  in May 2000.  As parents we felt we wanted to help find out why children, like Alistair -  who have a reasonable prognosis, don't do well.  We set up Alistair's Appeal after his death to raise funds for paediatric brain tumour research.  The full story of what happened to Alistair can be accessed from the main page - click on "Don't Worry"

Alistair's Appeal has been established by his parents Nigel and Debi and is managed by them voluntarily.  There is a committee of friends and colleagues who give their time to help organise the summer ball and many other friends and neighbours who have held events to raise funds on behalf of the appeal.  All time is given willingly and voluntarily and there are no hidden costs.  You may be assured then that all your donation goes to paediatric brain tumour research and that no funds are set aside for any other purpose.
